The Danish Gambling Authority has opened an application window for new land-based casino licences in Denmark, with permits valid for up to ten years. Interested operators must submit complete documentation by the November 3 deadline.
Application Process and Evaluation
Denmark currently maintains seven active land-based casino licences across Copenhagen, Helsingør, Odense, Vejle, Aarhus and Aalborg. Each submission will undergo mandatory consultation with the relevant municipality, local police chief, Ministry of Taxation, Ministry of Business and, where applicable, the Danish Maritime Authority. The regulator will assess applicants on professional competence, financial stability, geographic suitability, target audience and detailed project specifications.
Regulatory Context
The licensing review coincides with ongoing efforts to reduce unlicensed online gambling activity. According to the regulator’s latest report, website blockings increased by 106.2 per cent between 2024 and 2025. The Authority has not yet confirmed whether existing permits will be renewed or if the total number of licences will change.
